MOSCOW. July 11 (Interfax) - The Kremlin understands that Turkey is committed to its obligations as a NATO member and supports Sweden's accession to the alliance, Russian presidential press secretary Dmitry Peskov said.
"Turkey is a member of NATO. Turkey has its obligations, and Turkey is committed to its obligations. This has never been a secret to us. In this respect, we've never worn rose-tinted glasses," Peskov told journalists on Tuesday when asked about the Kremlin's attitude towards the Turkish president's decision to consent to Sweden's accession to NATO.
"That's how we treat this. In this respect, we perfectly understand everything. This is one part of the story," he said.
Russia and Turkey do have differences in opinion, but "there are also areas of shared interests for both countries, which are important enough to us and the Republic of Turkey," he said.
