BRUSSELS. July 11 (Interfax) - NATO leaders have reiterated readiness to continue supporting Georgia in a special paragraph of their joint communique at the organization's summit in Vilnius, Lithuania.
"We reiterate our support to the territorial integrity and sovereignty of Georgia within its internationally recognised borders. We stand firm in our support for Georgia's right to decide its own future and foreign policy course free from outside interference," the document approved by Vilnius NATO summit participants on Tuesday says.
"We reiterate the decision made at the 2008 Bucharest Summit that Georgia will become a member of the Alliance with the Membership Action Plan (MAP) as an integral part of the process," it says.
NATO heads of state and heads of government say in the document that they "highly appreciate" Georgia's contribution to NATO operations, which they believe demonstrates the country's determination and ability to help Euro-Atlantic security.
NATO leaders reaffirm the pubic that they are committed to enhancing political dialogue and practical cooperation with Georgia within the framework of the NATO-Georgia commission.
