Yars ICBM systems deployed on combat patrol routes in Russia's Altai

MOSCOW. July 12 (Interfax) - Yars strategic missile systems of the Russian Strategic Missile Forces' Barnaul formation have been deployed on combat patrol routes, the Russian Defense Ministry said on Wednesday.

"As part of maneuvering, Yars ICBM crews are marching, dispersing, changing positions, and providing engineering equipment, camouflage and tactical security of their positions. Missile units and detachments are dispersed in forests to conceal Yars systems," the ministry said.

A broad range of unmanned aerial vehicles has been used during the exercise to spot sabotage groups in the formation's position area and to protect Yars road-mobile missile systems, it said.

"UAVs have spotted every mock sabotage and reconnaissance group mining roads on the way of the convoys in the real-time mode. The saboteurs failed to thwart preparations for the combat training mission, as they were timely neutralized by security and reconnaissance units of the Russian Strategic Missile Forces far from the positions," the ministry said.

Yars is a strategic silo-based and road-mobile missile system. According to official information, it operates on a top range of 11,000 kilometers and carries a multiple reentry vehicle.
