Armenian serviceman wounded by Azerbaijani gunfire on border - Armenian Defense Ministry

YEREVAN/BAKU. July 12 (Interfax) - A serviceman of the Armenian Armed Forces was wounded by Azerbaijani gunfire on Wednesday morning, the Armenian Defense Ministry said.

"Units of the Azerbaijani Armed Forces opened fire at Armenian positions in the Tekh area [in the Syunik region in southern Armenia] at 5:30 a.m. on July 12, inflicting an injury on a serviceman of the Armenian Armed Forces," the press service for the Armenian Defense Ministry said.

The serviceman's condition is satisfactory, and his life is not in danger, the press service said.

In turn, Baku blamed the Armenian Armed Forces for the border shootout.

"Armenian forces stationed near Digh in the Gorus region fired small arms at Azerbaijani positions in the vicinity of Zabukh in the Lachin region [near the Azerbaijani-Armenian border] at 5:45 a.m. on July 12," the Azerbaijani Defense Ministry said.

The ministry also reported shelling of its positions in Nagorno-Karabakh.

"Illegal Armenian formations, operating in the Azerbaijani territory where Russian peacekeepers are temporarily stationed, fired small arms at Azerbaijani positions in the direction of the Shusha region at 11:25 p.m. on July 11," the ministry said.

"Azerbaijani army units took respective countermeasures," it said.
