UK to announce new large military assistance package for Ukraine - PM's office

LONDON. July 12 (Interfax) - The United Kingdom may soon announce the delivery of another large batch of weapons and military hardware to Ukraine, the British prime minister's office said in a statement.

It will include additional ammunition and hardware and "a 50-million-pound support package for equipment repair, as well as establishing a new military rehabilitation center," the statement said.

There are plans to supply "thousands of additional rounds of Challenger 2 ammunition and more than 70 combat and logistics vehicles to Ukraine, including CVRT [combat vehicle reconnaissance tracked] vehicles" to Kiev, it said.

The statement quoted British Prime Minister Rishi Sunak as saying that London would increase long-term security support for Ukraine.

"Supporting their [Ukraine's] progress on the pathway to NATO membership, coupled with formal, multilateral, and bilateral agreements and the overwhelming support of NATO members will send a strong signal [...] and return peace to Europe," he said.

"The joint declaration, expected to be signed by all members of the G7 [on the sidelines of the NATO summit in Vilnius on Wednesday], will set out how allies will support Ukraine over the coming years to end the war and deter and respond to any future attack," the office said.

"It is the first time that this many countries have agreed a comprehensive long-term security arrangement of this kind with another country," it said.

"Partners will provide more defense equipment, increase and accelerate intelligence sharing, bolster support for cyber and hybrid threat defenses, expand training programs and military exercises, and develop Ukraine's industrial base," the office said.
