Lavrov, Wang discuss int'l effort to launch Ukraine peace talks - Russian Foreign Ministry (Part 2)

MOSCOW. July 13 (Interfax) - Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov and Wang Yi, director of the Office of the Central Foreign Affairs Commission of the Chinese Communist Party's Central Committee, have discussed international efforts to launch Ukraine peace talks and reaffirmed the aspiration to deepen interaction in foreign policy between Moscow and Beijing, the Russian Foreign Ministry said.

Lavrov and Wang met in Jakarta on Thursday on the sidelines of ASEAN ministerial events.

"Special attention was paid on implementation of the agreements reached during bilateral contacts at the top political level since the beginning of this year. The importance of further cooperation to deepen bilateral foreign policy interaction was reaffirmed," the ministry said in a statement on its website.

"The sides commended the development of the political dialogue and practical interaction between Russia and China amid major turbulence in the global system," the ministry said.

"[They] exchanged views on the current situation around the Ukraine crisis and underscored the efforts of the international community to launch Ukraine peace talks," it said.

"Lavrov and Wang Yi had a detailed discussion about cooperation within the ASEAN in the context of certain countries' intensified efforts to establish narrow military and political formats aimed at undermining the ASEAN-centric system for ensuring security and stability in the Asia Pacific region," it said.

"[They] stressed the importance of strengthening interaction in foreign policy between Moscow and Beijing on various international platforms, including the UN, the SCO, BRICS, the APEC, the G20 and other formats. [They] expressed the shared aspiration for closer bilateral cooperation on issues on the regional and global agendas to promote the formation of a more just and stable polycentric world order," the ministry said. "The meeting was held in a traditionally trusting and constructive manner," it said.
