Belarusian General Staff studying expediency of subsequently using Wagner Group in Belarusian military training

MINSK. July 14 (Interfax) - Belarus' General Staff are studying the expediency of subsequently using the Wagner Group in training the Belarusian military, a head of department in the General Staff's territorial defense directorate said.

"This is a new method of training our territorial [defense] troops. Subsequently the leadership of our armed forces will make a decision on the expediency of its use," Maxim Payevsky told the state STV channel on Friday.

"The territorial troops in Belarus are involved in strengthening parts of the border and also in protecting critical infrastructure. The practice of their application is wide," the report said.

Earlier on Friday, the Belarusian Defense Ministry said that the group's instructors were involved in training national territorial-defense units in a number of military specialties. The ministry said that the military "are mastering skills such as moving across the battlefield and tactical shooting, [and are] gaining knowledge of engineering work and tactical medicine."
