Grain deal must not be used for staging terrorist attacks - Russia's Volodin

MOSCOW. July 17 (Interfax) - The Black Sea Grain Initiative may be reinstated only if obligations to Russia are fulfilled, and the maritime corridor is not used for committing acts of terrorism, Russian State Duma Speaker Vyacheslav Volodin said.

"The humanitarian corridor has regularly been used for covering up the Kiev regime's terrorist acts. In October and then in March and April, unmanned boats tried to attack the Black Sea Fleet and civilian infrastructure. It can't be ruled out that the terrorist attack on the Crimean Bridge could have been staged once again under the cover of the grain security corridor," Volodin said on his Telegram channel on Monday.

The State Duma will "demand that the parliaments of other states [recognize] the unacceptability of using the grain deal for perpetrating terrorist attacks," he said.

"We support the termination of the grain deal in these conditions. Its reinstatement will be possible only if the commitments to Russia are fulfilled and the grain corridor is not used for terrorist attacks," Volodin said.

"The grain deal is not functioning today," he said.

"A mere 2.51% of food supplies went to the poorest countries. Moreover, obligations to Russia related to agricultural exports have not been fulfilled," Volodin said.
