Putin orders adjustment to Russia's ethnic policy strategy in light of new regions' integration

MOSCOW. July 17 (Interfax) - Russian President Vladimir Putin has endorsed a list of instructions based on the outcomes of a May 19 meeting of the Council for Interethnic Relations.

The government and the Council have been instructed to adjust the state's ethnic policy strategy for the period up to 2025, taking into account in particular the integration of the Donetsk People's Republic, the Lugansk People's Republic, the Zaporozhye region, and the Kherson region into the purview of Russia's ethnic policy, the document says.

The Higher Education and Science Ministry, along with the Education Ministry and the Federal Agency for Youth Affairs, have been instructed to take additional measures to intensify work with young people in the new regions to promote harmonization of interethnic relations and consolidation of Russian civil identity, and to conduct an information campaign among college and school students regarding the causes and objectives of the special military operation.

The Prosecutor General's Office and the telecoms watchdog Roskomnadzor have been instructed to take additional measures to prevent the spread of discriminatory information or information denigrating human dignity based on ethnicity, including through the use of the media and the Internet, and to submit proposals on improving law enforcement practices in this area.

Top officials in Russia's constituent territories have been advised to take additional measures to commemorate participants in the special military operation.
