YEKATERINBURG. July 18 (Interfax) - Servicemen of a reconnaissance unit from Russia's 201st military base have neutralized a simulated illegal armed formation during an exercise in the mountains of Tajikistan, the Russian Central Military District's press service said on Tuesday.
"Mock enemy targets and troops were detected in conditions of poor visibility at a distance of up to 30 kilometers. The reconnaissance groups stealthily penetrated the territory behind enemy lines and set up ambushes targeting a convoy of offensive hardware," the press service said.
"The reconnaissance personnel acted decisively, firing small arms and the weapons of BTR-82A armored personnel carriers, and eliminated the simulated illegal armed formation, having caught it off-guard," it said.
The specialists used Sobolyatnik and Fara reconnaissance devices to find their way around and to assess the radar environment, it said.
Smoke grenades, thunderflash devices and blank munitions were also used to simulate a realistic combat environment, the press service said.
