MOSCOW. July 18 (Interfax) - The Russian State Duma on Tuesday passed in the third and final reading a bill increasing the age limit for certain categories of military reservists.
Thus, soldiers, sailors, sergeants, foremen, warrant officers and midshipmen will remain in reserve until the age of 55 instead of the current 50.
Starting from January 1, 2024, there will be a four-year transitional period, until January 1, 2028, during which citizens will be moved to retirement in phases.
The bill also allows a contract to be signed with a citizen aged up to 52, who also has foreign citizenship. The same applies to holders of a residence permit or any other document proving their right to reside permanently in a foreign state.
The bill stipulates cases where reservist status shall be suspended: in the event of a citizen being subject to military mobilization, signing a contract for military service or a contract on voluntary assistance with the missions vested with the Armed Forces.
The bill makes changes to the Federal Law "On military duty and military service."
