EU countries informally agree military sanctions against Belarus - media

MINSK. July 18 (Interfax) - The European Union intends to approve military sanctions against Belarus, which have already been agreed upon informally, Politico reported on Tuesday.

Three EU diplomats told the news outlet that the EU had informally agreed on a package of military sanctions against Belarus.

"The package will include restrictions on battlefield equipment, including aviation parts, two of the diplomats said. The exact items will mirror the sanctions against Russia - an effort to crack down on military components being illegally routed through Belarus to Russia," the report says.

The talks were separate from another discussion on how to fully align the anti-Belarusian sanctions with those against Moscow, Politico said. The talks stalled over whether the EU should lift sanctions on Belarusian fertilizers, it said.

It is expected that the EU commission will send the text of the sanctions to EU diplomats as early as Wednesday, after which the package could be approved next week, the outlet said.
