Moscow determined to develop cooperation with Bishkek despite threat of U.S. sanctions - Peskov

MOSCOW. July 19 (Interfax) - Russia is determined to continue developing bilateral economic relations and joint multilateral integration processes with Kyrgyzstan as long as they are beneficial to Bishkek, Russian presidential press secretary Dmitry Peskov said.

Journalists asked Peskov on Wednesday to comment on reports that the United States might impose sanctions on Kyrgyzstan for its increasingly close economic ties with Russia and on the possible risks that this poses to the Moscow-Bishkek relationship.

"Apart from the fact that Kyrgyzstan is our close partner and ally, we are also brought together by our involvement in quite advanced integration processes," he said.

Peskov said he meant the Eurasian Economic Union in particular.

"This is the kind of integration that greatly benefits Kyrgyzstan itself, and the Kyrgyz economy definitely benefits from the continued development of this integration process," Peskov said.

"We intend to further develop our bilateral relations with Kyrgyzstan, which we value very much, as well as all formats of joint integration," he said.
