MOSCOW. July 19 (Interfax) - Explosive ordnance disposal specialists of the Russian Emergency Situations Ministry have examined and removed explosive items from more than 890 hectares of territory in the new Russian regions, Emergency Situations Minister Alexander Kurenkov said.
"More than 890 hectares have been examined and cleared of explosive items. More than 90,000 shells, mines and other munitions have been found and disposed of," Kurenkov said during a government Q&A session at the Federation Council on Wednesday.
The Emergency Situations Ministry's vehicles have delivered over 133,000 tonnes of humanitarian cargo to the new regions, he said. More than 152,000 tonnes of drinking water and more than 327,000 tonnes of service water have been delivered to the Donetsk People's Republic.
The Emergency Situations Ministry is continuing to provide assistance to people in towns and villages in the Kherson region that were flooded following the destruction of the Kakhovka Hydropower Plant. More than 8,600 people have been evacuated during the rescue operation. The ministry has delivered about 550 tonnes of food and over 820 tonnes of bottled water to flooded areas in the Kherson region, Kurenkov said.
