CHISINAU. July 19 (Interfax) - The Moldovan authorities will continue the process of denouncing agreements in the Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS), Moldovan Parliament Speaker Igor Grosu said.
The parliament and the government "will continue working on renouncing everything that is against Moldova's national interests," he said on social networks on Wednesday.
"We no longer want to be a party to the entities and agreements that are not useful in any way. The presence of the Republic of Moldova in CIS entities has not brought and will not bring any benefits to Moldovans," he said.
The parliament has started the process of Moldova's withdrawal from the agreement on the CIS Interparliamentary Assembly, he said. The parliament has also started the process of denouncing some agreements signed in the CIS.
"We have many unneeded agreements, which have never helped the Republic of Moldova. We will be working with the government on their denunciation until we renounce everything that harms national interests," Grosu said.
Moldovan Foreign Affairs and European Integration Minister Nicu Popescu said in February that Moldova was starting the process of withdrawing from several dozens of CIS agreements. He said the country is a party to some 330 CIS agreements, many of which need revision.
In May, the Moldovan parliament made a final decision to quit the agreement on the creation of the interstate TV and radio company Mir. For the past two months, the parliament and the government denounced about a dozen CIS agreements.
In late June, the parliament passed in the first reading a bill on Moldova's withdrawal from the agreement on the CIS Interparliamentary Assembly. A final decision on Moldova's withdrawal from the CIS Interparliamentary Assembly will be made before the end of July.
