ROSTOV-ON-DON. July 19 (Interfax) - Traffic from Crimea to the Kherson region at the Dzhankoi checkpoint has almost tripled a day after the Crimean Bridge incident, the press service for the Crimean Border Guard Department of the Russian Federal Security Service said in a statement.
"The number of vehicles cleared to pass through the Dzhankoi checkpoint soared 2.5 times in the past day alone, compared to the previous reporting period," the statement said.
Exhaustive measures are taken for prompt clearance, it said.
"A temporary simplified procedure for clearing vehicles leaving Crimea was introduced on Monday, July 17, 2023. The time of clearance does not exceed 10 minutes per vehicle," the statement said.
People actively use the so-called land corridor to which the Dzhankoi checkpoint belongs as an alternative route, with the peak loads being recorded there in daytime, the statement said.
It is necessary to have a valid identity document and vehicle documents to cross the administrative border, it said.
Two Ukrainian surface drones attacked the Crimean Bridge in the early hours of July 17. The bridge's roadway was damaged. Crimean authorities called on people to use a ground route to Crimea via the Donetsk People's Republic, Zaporozhye and Kherson regions. Car traffic on the bridge resumed along a reversible lane on July 18.
