MOSCOW. July 20 (Interfax) - Russian helicopters conducted bombing practice during an exercise that focused on destroying a mock enemy submarine in the Baltic Sea, the press service for the Russian Baltic Fleet said on Wednesday.
"Under the scenario of the exercise, a mock enemy submarine was present in the Baltic Fleet's zone of responsibility. The task set to the submarine was to mount a torpedo attack on a unit of the fleet's warships," the fleet said in a statement.
Kamov Ka-27 and Ka-27M naval anti-submarine helicopters took part in the exercise, it said.
"After the target was detected, Ka-27 and Ka-27M helicopters from the fleet's air force were sent to the designated sector of the sea, where the crews practiced searching for and tracking the submarine using a combination of radar and sonar systems," it said.
"After finding the submarine and establishing its coordinates, the pilots destroyed the special simulated underwater target with the use of P-50T air-dropped bombs," the fleet said.
The flights and bombing practice were performed along a pre-determined route over the Baltic Fleet's maritime training range, it said.
