ROSTOV-ON-DON. July 20 (Interfax) - The frequency of blasts at a military training ground that caught fire in eastern Crimea the previous day is declining, the Crimean Emergency Situations Ministry said on Thursday.
"The situation in the Kirovskoye district is stabilizing. There is a drastic fall in the frequency of pyrotechnics detonation. The Russian Defense Ministry stands ready to start examining the territory at the training ground, and based on this, recommendations for the population will be elaborated," the statement said.
The examination of territories and infrastructure facilities for damage and the presence of explosive devices has already begun in some residential localities, it noted. After that, it will be possible to decide, whether the local residents can return to their homes.
The residents of five residential localities closest to the training ground were evacuated on Wednesday, the Emergency Situations Ministry said. In total, about 70 people are currently staying in temporary accommodation centers, many went to their relatives and acquaintances.
As reported, a military training ground storing ammunition caught fire in the Kirovskoye district in eastern Crimea in the early hours of July 19. About 2,200 people were evacuated. The Tavrida highway, which links the Crimean Bridge with Sevastopol, has been temporarily closed, with traffic being diverted along the old road.
