Russian troops in Tajikistan practice launching S-300 air defense missiles

YEKATERINBURG. July 21 (Interfax) - Russian forces stationed in Tajikistan have carried out electronic launches of S-300 air defense missiles upon a simulated enemy's aerial targets, the Russian Central Military District's press service said on Friday.

"The S-300PS Favorit air defense missile systems of the Russian military base stationed in Tajikistan practiced repelling a simulated enemy's air raid," it said.

According to the exercise scenario, on-duty forces reported the detection of several ballistic missiles launched by a simulated enemy to strike Russian military sites.

"A battalion of the S-300PS air defense missile system acquired the aerial targets imitating a simulated enemy's air-launched weapons and carried out electronic launches of guided anti-aircraft missiles upon them. All the mock targets were destroyed," it said.

The troops engaged in the exercise also practiced reloading S-300PS systems with missiles, and security units were trained to repel a simulated assault by sabotage and reconnaissance units upon the system's launch sites.
