Sixteen missiles fired by Ukrainian HIMARS systems intercepted in past day - Russian Defense Ministry

MOSCOW. July 21 (Interfax) - The Russian Armed Forces intercepted 16 HIMARS missiles over the past day, Russian Defense Ministry spokesman Igor Konashenkov said at a press briefing on Friday.

"In the past day, air defenses intercepted 16 missiles [fired by] Ukrainian HIMARS high mobility artillery rocket systems," Konashenkov said.

A command post of the Ukrainian army's 79th Air Assault Brigade was struck in the Donetsk People's Republic (DPR) and a fuel depot of Ukraine's 36th Marine Brigade was destroyed in the Zaporozhye region, he said.

"Tactical and army aircraft, missile units and artillery of the group of forces of the Armed Forces of the Russian Federation hit 102 artillery units of the Ukrainian Armed Forces on their firing positions and enemy troops and military hardware in 123 areas over the past day," Konashenkov said.

Fourteen Ukrainian drones were shot down in the Lugansk People's Republic, the DPR and the Zaporozhye region, he said.

"A total of 456 Ukrainian planes, 243 helicopters, 5,154 unmanned aerial vehicles, 426 air defense missile systems, 10,789 tanks and other armored fighting vehicles, 1,139 multiple rocket launcher vehicles, 5,547 field artillery systems and mortars, and 11,787 special military vehicles have been destroyed since the start of the special military operation," Konashenkov said.
