MOSCOW. July 21 (Interfax) - Moscow's Meshchansky District Court will soon consider an investigator's request for the arrest of a former leader of the Donetsk militia, Igor Girkin (Strelkov), the court's press service told Interfax.
"The court has received material on selecting a restraining measure in the form of custodial detention for Girkin," the spokesperson said on Friday.
The investigator requested that Strelkov be remanded in custody, the court documents said.
According to the case files, at issue is a criminal case into calls to engage in extremist activities.
Strelkov was apprehended earlier on Friday, his wife said.
His lawyer Alexander Molokhov told Interfax that Strelkov was taken away by law enforcement after a search of his Moscow flat.
The charges in the case are still unknown. Investigators have yet to comment on the situation.
