Peskov on extending army draft age: Russian Defense Ministry's reasoned expert opinion is main point in this issue

MOSCOW. July 25 (Interfax) - The Kremlin is guided by the Defense Ministry's position on the issue of introducing the army draft-age bracket from 18 to 30, Russian presidential press secretary Dmitry Peskov told reporters.

"All explanations have been given by the specific institutions. If there are any questions then, of course, we need to be primarily guided by them. Of course, the starting point is the reasoned expert opinion of the Defense Ministry. That is what we are focused on," Peskov said in response to a question from journalists about the Kremlin's attitude to the lawmakers' proposal to introduce a new draft-age bracket in Russia from 18 to 30 without a transitional period.

When asked what reason was behind the proposed change, Peskov said, "I can't tell you. I will not give any comments here. They should be given by the competent agencies."
