BRUSSELS. July 26 (Interfax) - The Committee of Permanent Representatives in the European Union (Coreper) approved a decree of the Council of the European Union on Wednesday on prolonging individual sanctions against Russia in connection with the situation in Ukraine.
"EU ambassadors have agreed on the renewal of restrictive measures concerning Ukraine's territorial integrity," the Spanish presidency of the Council of the EU said on Twitter.
After approval at a meeting, Coreper approves an official decree. In the past few years, relevant decisions have as a rule been made according to a written procedure without discussion. The prolongation of the sanctions takes effect after publication in the Official Journal of the EU.
The individual sanctions envisage freezing bank assets in Europe and a ban on entry to the EU and to the countries that have joined the restrictions.
The EU first introduced individual sanctions due to the situation in Ukraine on March 17, 2014.
