Patrushev: Sanctions have put Russian economy to test but haven't achieved results expected by West

PETROZAVODSK. July 31 (Interfax) - The West has launched an economic war on Russia, seeking to ruin its economy and inflict additional social problems on its population, but its unprecedented sanction pressure has not brought about the expected results, Russian Security Council Secretary Nikolai Patrushev said.

"The unprecedented sanction pressure pursued by Washington, London, and Brussels has put our economy to the test," Patrushev said at a conference dealing with the security of Russia's internal republic of Karelia in Petrozavodsk on Monday.

"The restrictions by unfriendly countries have not achieved the results they expected," he said.
