Driver of car that rammed Russian embassy gate detained near Chisinau

CHISINAU. Aug 2 (Interfax) - Moldovan police have detained the driver of a car that rammed the gate of the Russian embassy in Chisinau early on Wednesday morning, the press service for the Moldovan General Police Inspectorate said.

The gendarmerie protecting the Russian embassy building in the center of Chisinau reported the incident at about 6 a.m. on August 2.

"A Mercedes rammed the Russian embassy gate and fled the scene in Chisinau on August 2. [...] Another two cars were damaged during the chase. The police managed to stop the offender near Straseni [30 kilometers from Chisinau]," the statement said.

No one was hurt. The driver has been detained, and the police are clarifying the details of the incident.
