MOSCOW. Aug 2 (Interfax) - A military court in Moscow has sentenced members of the Aslan Gagiyev gang to between 12 years in a penitentiary and life imprisonment on counts of murder, assault, abduction and other crimes, the Russian Prosecutor General's Office said on Wednesday.
"The Second Western District Military Court has handed down sentences in the case of 12 members of a criminal network," the office said.
The court sentenced ten defendants from 12 to 20 years in a high-security penitentiary with one year and six months of restrictions, and sentenced another two to life imprisonment in a specialized penitentiary.
"It was found that the defendants at various times joined the criminal network and its gangs supervised by Aslan Gagiyev, aka Jako, whose case is being processed by the Southern District Military Court," the office said.
According to the investigators, the gang committed 37 murders, attempted to murder four people, attacked three police officers, abducted two individuals, held one person in illegal captivity, used forged documents, and illegally kept weapons and ammunition in Moscow, the Moscow region, and the Republic of North Ossetia-Alania in 2004-2014.
The Russian Investigative Committee reported earlier that 24 members of the criminal network had been given long sentences, including life imprisonment. The criminal case against 12 gang members is in progress, seven are internationally wanted, and seven have been killed in internal disputes.
