Minsk calls on Warsaw to refrain from using situation around Belarusian helicopters for border areas' militarization

MINSK. Aug 2 (Interfax) - The Belarusian Foreign Ministry has called on Poland not to escalate the situation around the flight of Belarusian helicopters in airspace close to the border between the two countries and not to use it for militarizing Polish territories adjacent to the border.

"We have called on the Polish side not to escalate the situation and not to use it for any militarization of border areas," the Belarusian Foreign Ministry's press service said in a statement on Wednesday.

"A de-escalation of the already difficult situation in bilateral relations is only possible within the framework of mutually respectful and constructive dialogue," it said.

Poland's Charge d'Affaires ad interim in Belarus Marcin Wojciechowski was invited to the Belarusian Foreign Ministry earlier on Wednesday.

"It was conveyed to the diplomat that the hasty statements of Polish officials about the violation of Polish airspace by two Belarusian helicopters on August 1, 2023 had not been confirmed by the comprehensive scrutiny conducted by the Belarusian side. As evidence, objective monitoring data of the trajectory of the helicopters' flight was demonstrated [at the meeting]," the Belarusian Foreign Ministry said.
