Armenian PM sees prospects for enduring peace with Azerbaijan if Baku takes relevant steps

YEREVAN. Aug 3 (Interfax) - Yerevan and Baku have every chance to achieve an enduring peace, but Azerbaijan should refrain from actions narrowing this opportunity, Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan said.

"No matter the difficulties, Armenia and Azerbaijan have a chance to achieve an enduring, stable peace. I urge Azerbaijan to refrain from actions narrowing this opportunity, such as continuously torpedoing the Baku-Stepanakert dialogue as part of the international mechanism, blocking the Lachin corridor, and the abduction of Nagorno-Karabakh resident Vagif Khachatryan who was being transported to Yerevan by a Red Cross vehicle," Pashinyan said at a government meeting on Thursday.

Freeing Khachatryan and other prisoners, hostages and detainees would be "an impressive confirmation of Baku's commitment to the peace agenda," he said.

"As another manifestation of the commitment to the peace agenda, I urge Azerbaijan not to block the transportation of humanitarian cargo sent by the Armenian government to Nagorno-Karabakh via the Lachin corridor," Pashinyan said.
