Russian frigate, aircraft train in destroying mock enemy sub in Sea of Japan

MOSCOW. Aug 3 (Interfax) - The Marshal Shaposhnikov frigate has trained in searching for a mock enemy submarine together with two Kamov Ka-27PL naval aviation helicopters in the Peter the Great Gulf, the Russian Pacific Fleet press service said on Thursday.

The mock submarine "was tracked down and destroyed by the Marshal Shaposhnikov with antisubmarine weapons," the press service said.

The territorial command center of the Russian Pacific Fleet informed the frigate that it had detected an unidentified submarine in the designated area.

"The ship was alerted, and two Kamov Ka-27 antisubmarine helicopters were scrambled to expand the radius of the search for the submarine with a GAS sonic station," the press service said.

This was a scheduled exercise, it said.
