Moscow justice of peace fines Apple 400,000 rubles for not removing fake info about special military operation

MOSCOW. Aug 3 (Interfax) - A Moscow justice of the peace has fined Apple 400,000 rubles for not removing prohibited content, an Interfax correspondent reported.

"Apple Distribution International Ltd. is to be penalized with an administrative fine of 400,000 rubles," Justice of the Peace from Judicial District No. 422 in Moscow's Tagansky district Timur Vakhrameyev said in his ruling.

Apple was found guilty of not removing prohibited information. This is the first time it was penalized in Russia for these administrative charges.

The penalty was "below the minimum, given the arguments presented at the hearing," Vakhrameyev said. There was no reason to define Apple's offense as insignificant, he said.

A motion read out in court says that Apple failed to remove applications and podcasts containing incorrect information about the Russian special military operation in Ukraine, as well as information "aimed at drawing minors into illegal activity for destabilizing the political situation in Russia."
