DUBAI. Aug 7 (Interfax) - Tehran will host a conference dealing with cooperation between BRICS and Iran on Tuesday, which will be attended among others by Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Sergei Ryabkov, Iranian Foreign Ministry Spokesperson Nasser Kanaani said.
"A conference on the prospects for future cooperation between Iran and BRICS will be held at the Iranian Foreign Ministry's Center for Political and International Studies on August 8. Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Sergei Ryabkov will take part in the conference," Kanaani told journalists on Monday.
Following a BRICS summit last summer, Iran applied for membership of the association comprising Brazil, Russia, India, China, and South Africa.
In early June this year, an Iranian delegation led by Foreign Minister Hossein Amir-Abdollahian took part in meetings of BRICS foreign ministers and friends of BRICS in Cape Town.
Amir-Abdollahian said at the time that, along with other interested countries, Iran could be a reliable partner of BRICS in the future.
