Russian military neutralizes mock militants during exercise in Kyrgyzstan

YEKATERINBURG. Aug 7 (Interfax) - Russian troops have held an antiterrorist drill in Kyrgyzstan, the Central Military District's press service said.

"Counterterrorism units of Russia's Kant joint military base have repelled an attack on a checkpoint and an administrative building during an antiterrorism exercise," it said.

According to the exercise scenario, mock enemy sabotage teams tried to infiltrate the base and attack its headquarters. Servicemen on duty at the checkpoint raised the alarm. A counterterrorism unit deployed under the protection of a smoke screen and armored vehicles. The unit reconnoitered the area, surrounded the militants, killed or detained them, and demined the area they had seized.

The exercise involved about 50 servicemen and ten pieces of hardware.
