MINSK. Aug 7 (Interfax) - Belarus has deployed more than 40 new units on its border with Ukraine since 2014, the Belarusian State Border Committee said.
"Speaking of the Ukrainian sector, we have been dealing closely with both engineering equipment of the national border and deploying new units since 2014. More than 40 units have been deployed in the years since," the committee's deputy head of directorate Maxim Litvinsky told the STV state TV channel on Monday.
Earlier, the committee said it started building five outposts on the border with Ukraine and forming a maneuverable group equipped with armored vehicles, mortars and unmanned aerial vehicles. The situation on the Belarusian southern border is the most complicated "because this is the first time sovereign Belarus has to protect its border with a country where hostilities are taking place," the committee said.
