MOSCOW. Aug 8 (Interfax) - Almost 200 terrorist crimes, mostly plotted by young people, have been prevented in Russia since February 2022, the National Antiterrorism Committee (NAC) said in a statement on Tuesday.
"A total of 188 terrorist crimes have been prevented in the country since February of last year. Most of them were plotted by young people influenced by radical ideas, those with low moral qualities, a lifestyle on the margins of society, and a lack of awareness of the consequences of their actions," the NAC said after its meeting.
NAC Chairman, Federal Security Service Director Alexander Bortnikov pointed to "the emergence of new terrorist threats, most of which come from Ukrainian security services and nationalist formations, against the backdrop of the special military operation."
"With the assistance of the collective West, they advocate extremist and neo-Nazi ideas, and seek to involve Russian citizens and individuals arriving from Ukraine in criminal actions by actively using various Internet resources," the NAC said.
The Federal Service for Supervision of Communications, Information Technology and Mass Media (Roskomnadzor), working together with law enforcement and supervisory agencies, has blocked access to 67,000 pieces of terrorist material and removed another 334,000 from the Internet since 2019, it said.
"The effectiveness of the work of all government bodies and educational establishments needs to be enhanced to encourage the younger generation to reject the ideas of terrorism, neo-Nazism and mass murders," the NAC said.
