MINSK. Aug 8 (Interfax) - Latvia is planning to build a facility to manufacture munitions and other military products to meet NATO's needs, Latvian Defense Minister Inara Murniece said.
"We are considering the establishment of a state joint stock company to manufacture military products, which could be used not only for supplying our own armed forces, but also for helping other NATO members, Defense Minister Inara Murniece said," the LETA news agency reported.
The decision was made following Murniece's meeting with Latvian President Edgars Rinkevics, at a time when "the entire world is experiencing a shortage of weapons and weapon systems."
"We should be able to manufacture what we have a critical need for ourselves, including munitions. The government is expected to review documents that will strengthen Latvia's defense industry within a month," Murniece said.
