MOSCOW. Aug 8 (Interfax) - Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Sergei Ryabkov held consultations in Tehran on August 7-8 where Russia and Iran reaffirmed their resolve to continue efforts to restore the Iranian nuclear deal, the Russian Foreign Ministry said on Tuesday.
"The main focus was on the prospects of the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA). Both sides confirmed their resolve to continue the efforts aimed at preserving and restoring the full-blooded implementation of these crucial agreements, which were approved by UN SC Resolution 2231 and have no reasonable alternative," the ministry's website said.
"Russia and Iran are united in understanding the challenges the international community encountered during the implementation of the aforesaid resolution as a result of the fallacious policy pursued by the United States and like-minded others of exerting 'maximum pressure' on Tehran," it said.
The two sides "underscored the unacceptability of any attempt by the West to impose any new schemes and approaches to solving JCPOA-related problems which presume the infliction of damage to legitimate and mutually beneficial Russian-Iranian cooperation in various areas," the ministry said.
In addition, "the sides conducted a substantive cross-check of positions on a number of other pressing international issues including the NPT [nonproliferation treaty] review process, the state of affairs within the OPCW [Organization for the Prohibition of Chemical Weapons], biosecurity issues, and measures to prevent an arms race in space," it said.
"Bilateral coordination on these and other areas will be consistently strengthened," it said.
