MOSCOW. Aug 9 (Interfax) - A breach of safety regulations is the main line of investigation into the explosion at the Zagorsk Optical-Mechanical Plant in Sergiyev Posad, Moscow region, Olga Vrady, spokesperson for the Russian Investigative Committee's regional branch, said.
"A criminal case has been opened on counts of safety regulations breach for hazardous manufacturing facilities that caused a fire at a fireworks warehouse," Vrady told reporters on Wednesday.
"The causes of the incident and the number of casualties are being established," she said.
"Officers of the Emergency Situations Ministry are putting out the fire. Detectives and forensic technicians of the Russian Investigative Committee's department in the Moscow region are working at the scene," Vrady said.
An explosion rocked the Zagorsk Optical-Mechanical Plant at 10:45 a.m. on Wednesday. At least 35 people were hurt. All of the plant's buildings and workshops were evacuated. Operational services and Moscow region governor Andrei Vorobyov have arrived at the scene.
According to the press service for the Russian Emergency Situations Ministry, over 150 officers, including rescuers and canine teams of the Tsentrospas and Lider units, are working at the scene.
