Russian Navy holding anti-sub exercise in Baltic Sea - fleet

MOSCOW. Aug 9 (Interfax) - Russian naval ships will practice destroying a mock enemy submarine and will hold a live-fire artillery exercise during maneuvers in the Baltic Sea, the Russian Baltic Fleet's press service said in a statement on Wednesday.

"An exercise of a search and strike group of ships, which will focus on tracking and destroying a mock enemy submarine, has begun at a maritime training range of the Baltic Fleet," the press service said.

The drills involve the Urengoi and the Zelenodolsk small anti-submarine ships, which will practice searching for and destroying mock enemy submarines with the use of anti-submarine weapons, it said.

"Apart from their anti-submarine missions, the ships will also simulate a minelaying operation, will fire an artillery system at seaborne and airborne targets and will perform joint maneuvers," the press service said

This is the scheduled exercise, it said.
