MINSK. Aug 10 (Interfax) - Canada has imposed additional sanctions on Belarus, the Canadian Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Trade said.
"Melanie Joly, Minister of Foreign Affairs, today announced that Canada is imposing sanctions against nine individuals and seven entities under the Special Economic Measures Act," the ministry said in a statement on Wednesday.
The newly designated entities include the Defense Ministry, the Internal Troops of the Interior Ministry, the BelOMO holding, the Defense Initiatives company, the 2566th Radioelectronic Armament Repair Plant, ATE-Engineering, and the Alexei Talai Charitable Foundation.
The Belarusian citizens targeted by these sanctions are head of Belarusian Television and Radio Company Ivan Eismont, chief of the Belarusian Interior Ministry's prevention department Oleg Karazei, chairman of the Grodno region executive committee Vladimir Karanik, etc.
"Today's sanctions are being carried out in parallel with similar actions by likeminded partners and allies, including the European Union, the United States, the United Kingdom and New Zealand," it said.
