MOSCOW. Aug 10 (Interfax) - Twelve people are accounted as missing after the explosion in the town of Sergiyev Posad, outside Moscow, a spokesperson for the Russian Emergency Situations Ministry's Moscow region branch told Interfax on Thursday morning.
"Twelve people have yet to be found during the cleanup operation. The information is being verified," the spokesperson said.
Fifty-five people have been injured in the incident near the Zagorsk Optical-Mechanical Plant in Sergiyev Posad, the ministry's regional department said. Five of them are in critical condition. Thirty-one people were examined by doctors without being admitted to hospital.
"Works to remove the debris are continuing," the spokesperson said.
As reported, an explosion occurred at a fireworks warehouse in the territory adjoining the Zagorsk Optical-Mechanical Plant at 10:45 a.m. on Wednesday. A woman who worked at the plant died after being injured in the blast.
Sergiyev Posad municipality head Dmitry Akulov said on Wednesday evening that eight people were reported missing after the incident.
