BAKU. Aug 10 (Interfax) - Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev accepted credentials from new Russian Ambassador to Azerbaijan Mikhail Yevdokimov on Thursday and discussed bilateral relations and processes unfolding in the region with him, a statement published on the presidential website says.
It was noted that the friendly bilateral relations between Azerbaijan and Russia had been successfully developing in a variety of areas, and the joint activity in political, trade, economic, energy, transport, humanitarian and regional security areas was underlined.
The sides affirmed effective interaction both at the bilateral level and in international organizations, underscored the role of the heads of state in the development of relations, and expressed confidence in their further successful advancement.
"The meeting touched upon the normalization of relations between Azerbaijan and Armenia and the status of negotiations on the peace agreement. The importance of energy and transport projects, including the North-South transport corridor, for regional development was underlined," the statement said.
