Russian, Chinese ships repel mock enemy air raid during joint patrol in Pacific Ocean

MOSCOW. Aug 10 (Interfax) - Ships of the Russian Navy and the Navy of the People's Liberation Army (PLA) of China held air defense drills during their joint patrol mission in the Pacific Ocean, the Russian Pacific Fleet's press service said.

"During the air defense exercise, the crews of the ships of the Russian Navy and the Navy of the PLA of China practiced algorithms of action to repel a mock enemy air raid from different altitudes and directions," it said.

Naval air force planes posed at the mock enemy aircraft attacking the joint unit.

The international unit includes the Admiral Tributs and the Admiral Panteleyev large anti-submarine ships, the Gremyashchy and the Aldar Tsydenzhapov corvettes, and the Pechenga medium seafaring tanker on the Russian side and the Qiqihar and the Guiyang guided-missile destroyers, the Tongling and the Rizhao frigates, and the Taihu supply ship on the Chinese side.

"The joint patrol is intended to strengthen naval cooperation between Russia and China, maintain peace and stability in the Asia-Pacific region, conduct sea monitoring, and guard maritime economic entities of Russia and China," the Russian Pacific Fleet said in a statement.
