Polish defense minister declares plans to deploy 10,000 troops near Belarusian border

MINSK. Aug 10 (Interfax) - Poland plans to deploy about 10,000 troops near the Belarusian border, Polish Defense Minister Mariusz Blaszczak said.

"About 10,000 soldiers will be stationed on the border [with Belarus]. We are planning that 4,000 of them will reinforce border guards, while 6,000 will protect the region," Blaszczak said on Radio Poland on Thursday.

Polish Deputy Minister of the Interior and Administrations Maciej Wasik said on Wednesday that the number of reinforcements sent to the Belarusian border would grow from 1,000 to 2,000.

Before that, the Polish Defense Ministry said that the minister had ordered deploying another 1,000 troops to patrol the Polish-Belarusian border "amid the dynamic situation on the Polish-Belarusian border and the request from the Border Guard commander."
