Roscosmos head hopes Luna-25 to become first mission to land on Moon's South Pole

TSIOLKOVSKY (Amur region). Aug 11 (Interfax) - The Luna-25 will hopefully become the world's first mission to land on the Moon's South Pole, Roscosmos CEO Yury Borisov said.

"We hope that we will be the first," Borisov told reporters on Friday.

Borisov said earlier in the day that the Luna-25 is expected to make a soft landing on the lunar surface on August 21.

India's Chandrayaan-3 lunar exploration mission is currently in lunar orbit. Its landing on the Moon's surface is set for August 23.
