Luna-25 mission proceeding normally - Roscosmos

TSIOLKOVSKY, Amur region. Aug 11 (Interfax) - Systems of the Luna-25 lender are operating normally, communication is stable, Russia's Roscosmos said.

"Telemetry indicates that service and on-board systems of Luna-25 are operating normally," Roscosmos said.

"Communication with the spacecraft is stable. The control group operates in the regular mode," it said.

It was reported earlier that a Soyuz-2.1b equipped with a Fregat upper stage and carrying the Luna-25 lander blasted off from Launch Pad 1S of the Vostochny Cosmodrome at 2:10 a.m. on Friday.

More than an hour after the launch, the Luna-25 was put on a flight trajectory to the Moon and separated from the Fregat upper stage. Ground service later took control of the spacecraft.

The soft landing of Luna-25 is expected to take place on August 21, Roscosmos General Director Yury Borisov said.

Luna-25 is part of Russia's lunar program. NPO Lavochkin has been working on the first lunar mission, which is aimed at exploring and using the Moon and the space around it by landers.
