Russian Baltic Fleet aircraft simulate missile launches

MOSCOW. Aug 14 (Interfax) - Fighter jets and bombers of the Russian Baltic Fleet have simulated air combat and missile launches, the fleet press service said on Saturday.

"About ten Sukhoi Su-27 and Su-24 aircraft of the Baltic Fleet took part in the training," the press service said.

"According to the exercise scenario, planes of a mock enemy violated the state border of the Russian Federation and attempted delivering a bomb and missile strike at strategic military sites in the Kaliningrad region," it said.

"As the information about unidentified aircraft approaching the national airspace was received, Su-27 fighter jets were scrambled to intercept. They tracked down and identified planes of the mock enemy, engaged and 'destroyed' them in air combat by electronic missile launches," the press service said.

Su-24 frontline bombers of the Baltic Fleet served as the mock enemy, it said.
