Russia's deliveries of Su-30SME fighter jets to Myanmar underway, two planes were provided in 2022 - FSMTC head

KUBINKA (Moscow region). Aug 15 (Interfax) - Russia continues to deliver Sukhoi Su-30SME fighter jets to Myanmar, while a timeline for handing over Pantsir-S1 short-range air defense systems is still being determined, head of the Russian Federal Service for Military-Technical Cooperation (FSMTC) Dmitry Shugayev told Interfax on the sidelines of the Army 2023 Forum.

"As regards Su-30SME fighter jets, two such planes were already delivered in 2022, while the others envisaged by the contract will be provided within the agreed timeframe," Shugayev said.

A contract on the delivery of Yakovlev Yak-130 jet trainers, weapons and ammunition for them to Myanmar continues to be fulfilled as well, he said.

"A timeline for deliveries of Pantsir-S1 systems to Myanmar is being specified," Shugayev said.

Myanmar is one of Russia's key partners in Southeast Asia, and Russia stands ready to provide weapons and hardware to all branches of Myanmar's Armed Forces.

A contract on the delivery of two Pantsir-S1 short-range air defense systems to Myanmar was signed in January 2021, Shugayev said.

Russian Deputy Defense Minister Alexander Fomin said in 2018 that an agreement on the purchase of six Su-30 planes had been reached between Russia and Myanmar.
