MOSCOW. Aug 15 (Interfax) - An L-39 jet trainer crashed in the Krasnodar territory, killing one crewmember, according to tentative reports, the Russian Defense Ministry said.
"An L-39 trainer of a training air regiment crashed while approaching to land following a planned training flight in the Krasnodar territory on August 14, 2023. The plane fell within the airfield's boundaries. There is no damage or casualties on the ground," the ministry said.
"According to preliminary reports from the scene, one of the crewmembers died. The causes of the crash have yet to be determined," it said.
The L-39 trainer is designed to train pilots.
The L-39 Albatros was developed in Czechoslovakia in the late 1960s and was manufactured serially until 1999. It used to serve as the principal trainer aircraft for the Warsaw Pact member states and is still in service with over 30 countries.
