Over 60 people hurt in Makhachkala gas station blast now in hospital, including 11 in grave condition - Health Ministry

MOSCOW. Aug 15 (Interfax) - More than 60 people hurt in a gas station blast in Makhachkala, Dagestan, are now in hospital, including 11 in grave condition, and all of them will be transferred to the Russian Health Ministry's federal centers and Moscow hospitals, Russian First Deputy Health Minister Viktor Fisenko said.

"Over 60 people remain at healthcare establishments in Makhachkala, including 11 people in grave condition," Fisenko told reporters.

"We are planning to evacuate all patients in grave condition from Makhachkala to the Russian Health Ministry's federal centers and healthcare establishments in Moscow," he said.

Doctors from the ministry's All-Russian Centre for Disaster Medicine and the Moscow Healthcare Department arrived in Makhachkala on a flight arranged by the Emergency Situations Ministry early in the morning, Fisenko said. The team has examined every patient in hospital care.

"A decision is being made to transport and evacuate the patients to federal clinics of the Russian Health Ministry and clinics in Moscow," he said.

An automobile repair workshop caught fire in Makhachkala on Monday evening, and the flames spread to a gas station and caused an explosion. According to the latest update from the Emergency Situations Ministry, the incident killed 35 people, including three children, and injured another 80. Tuesday is a day of mourning in Dagestan.

A criminal case was opened on counts of providing services dangerous to consumers' lives or health, causing the deaths of two people or more by negligence.
