MOSCOW. Aug 15 (Interfax) - A Ukrainian drone has been downed in the Belgorod region, the Russian Defense Ministry said.
"Air defense has detected and downed a UAV. The prevented terror attack did not cause any casualties or damage," the ministry said on Tuesday.
Earlier, Belgorod region Governor Vyacheslav Gladkov said that a Russian air defense system had been activated in the Shebekino urban district.
"Our air defense system was activated in the Shebekino urban district. An airborne target approaching the town [Shebekino] has been downed. Preliminary information suggests no one was hurt," Gladkov said on Telegram.
The falling debris penetrated the roof of one property's garage and damaged a car, he said.
Since February 24, 2022, border areas in the Belgorod region have been attacked from Ukraine, causing deaths and injuries among the civilian population. This led the region to declare a yellow (high) level of terrorist threat. A state of emergency is in place in 15 border communities.
